Background
As an army brat, Melissa quickly learned how to join new groups and create welcoming spaces for all. Her early experiences led her to a career in social work, where she initially focused on women’s health and interpersonal relationships. During her career, she has led teams in a variety of settings, established new programs, created and implemented strategic plans, managed daily operations and human resources, and facilitated trainings. She has aimed to make a positive impact wherever she is; she has implemented culture change initiatives, built peer support and upstander programs, integrated restorative justice practices, and launched a number of other programs designed to foster a positive work environment. Past roles include serving as a non-profit Executive Director, a Senior Business Manager for a large research department, and Senior Director of Culture & Well-being for a large health system.
